Q. I have life insurance, why do I need to be a member?

A. Life insurance is important and we are glad you have a policy in place. This will help your family at the time of need. We would like your family and loved ones to receive the entire life insurance payout and not have to worry about repatriation costs plus air tickets. With AWA, the benefits will include discounted airfare any time you need to travel.

Q. Which funeral homes does AWA work with or recommend?

A. Members and their kin are at liberty to choose any funeral home but should promptly notify AWA so that the repatriation process can flow quickly and smoothly.

Q. Can I chose the funeral home in the country of destination?

A. Yes, you can. Please furnish us with the details as soon as you identify the funeral home, so that the funeral home in the host country can coordinate with the home country funeral home.

Q. Why do you require details of the entire family when only one person is a member?

A. In the event of repatriation, AWA will proptly need to make travel arrangements for enrolled spouse and enrolled dependent children. We need to collect these details at time of member enrollment.

Q. Why do you need my passport number?

A. We need to verify and ensure that benefits are available to the rightful members.

Q. Who do you consider to be a dependent?

A. This would be your child(ren) below the age of 18 years at the time a claim is filed.

Q. I have a newborn, how do I go about having the newborn listed as a dependent?

A. A newborn can only be added within first 100 days of being born.

Q. Are there any exclusions?

A. AWA provides benefit after a brief 90 day waiting period. Death resulting from criminal activities, nuclear explosion, mountaineering, parachute jumping or skydiving, excessive drinking and war is  excluded.

Q. Will I get my money back if I cancel?

A. If you cancel your Membership within the first 90 days of enrollment for any reason you will receive a full refund.  If you cancel your Membership  after 90 days, there will be no refund.

Q. Do I qualify?

A. If you’re an African in the Diaspora aged between 18 and 70, you are eligible to apply.
